Removal of Skatepark

Published: 26 June 2023

The Town Council regretfully informs its residents that the skatepark is no longer viable and will be removed from Warbler Park.

Independent advice has identified:

1) the current location is not considered appropriate for any replacements

2) not suitable for concrete replacement due to underground drainage

3) steel is too costly due to initial and on-going maintenance costs, and is not the current preferred surface for construction

Our steel skatepark has served our community well over a period of some 23 years, with the Council spending many thousands of pounds over the years to maintain it.

The Council is reviewing all its play/leisure facilities and the plan is to commence with the refurbishment of the Redwood Road Play Area. Thereafter we will look at the facilities (existing and future) at the Recreation Ground.

We are keen to hear from local skatepark users about what sort of facility you would wish to see in the Town so that we can include that in our plans, and see if it is possible to offer a new facility in another location in the Town.

We are also keen to receive suggestions about how the Warbler Park space might be utilised after the skatepark removal.
